Katrina Germein (1991) is a best-selling author of award-winning picture books. Published internationally, Katrina believes young readers deserve stories that inspire imagination, curiosity, and laughter. Katrina is a past recipient of the Speech Pathology Book of the Year Award, a SCBWI Crystal Kite Award, and numerous CBCA Notable listings. Her work has been Highly Commended in the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards and recorded five times for the children’s television show, Play School.

What is your favourite memory of your time at Pembroke?

Laughing with my friends Anna and Shawnie.

The best advice I have ever been given was...

To think about who owns the monkey and give it back. ‘Not my circus. Not my monkeys.’

Name three places that are on your bucket list.

Serengeti National Park, Borneo (for the orangutans), and Komodo, Indonesia, to see a dragon in the wild.

My favourite book is…

No. I can’t choose one and I never reread. Lately I’ve been enjoying Robbie Arnott.

What inspires you?

Sunshine.

If you could have coffee with anyone in the world, who would it be?

This question makes me anxious, like I’m meant to choose someone inspirational I can learn from, but I choose my family, Steve and the kids.

Name a dish that reminds you of your childhood.

Roast chicken and veg.

What is a talent you wish you had?

Singing.

Song you can listen to on repeat?

Dancing, Kylie Minogue.

What’s a superpower you wish you had?

Time travel.
