Congratulations to Our IB Students

On behalf of the Pembroke community, I congratulate our Class of 2024 on their tremendous IB results which reinforce our School’s proud legacy of academic success.

It is my great honour to share with you preliminary results for our 2024 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme graduates. These committed learners build upon Pembroke’s proud legacy as South Australia’s oldest IB School, following in the footsteps of our first cohort in 1989 guided by co-founding Principal Diana Medlin’s vision to provide a truly international and global education.

Among our Class of 2024, we had 48 full IB students and I applaud each and every one of them on their remarkable tenacity throughout their studies.

Thus far, highlights from our IB Diploma results include:

  • 68 Merits
  • 187 A grades
  • Top score – 45/45 (ATAR equivalent 99.95)
  • 13 students 40+ (Distinction) 
  • 4 Bilingual Diplomas

In truly remarkable results, our 2024 School Co-Captain Enoch Osei-Tutu achieved a perfect score of 45 out of 45. On top of receiving the highest grade of 7 for each of his subjects (English A Language and Literature SL, Spanish ab initio SL, History SL, Sports, Exercise and Health Science HL, Mathematics Applications and Interpretations HL, Chemistry HL), he also achieved a grade A for Theory of Knowledge and for his Extended Essay in Sports, Exercise and Health Science. The latter wonderfully demonstrates two of his key passions in sports medicine and professional basketball, and we cannot wait to see where Enoch’s life, learning and career paths will lead.

Congratulations also go to Luca Shin who achieved a score of 44 with 7s for Chinese B SL, Music SL, Geography HL, Chemistry HL and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL, and As for both Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay in English A. Another outstanding graduate is Phoebe MacLaren who received a score of 44 with 7s in French B SL, Environmental Systems and Societies SL, Biology HL, Chemistry HL and Mathematics Applications and Interpretations SL, as well as an A for her English A Extended Essay.

A phenomenal 13 students achieved a Distinction score of 40+ and our IB cohort collectively recorded 68 Merits and 187 A grades. It has also been an exceptional year for our Year 11 IB students, including 8 Merits. In addition to these incredible results, 4 students achieved a Bilingual IB Diploma which is awarded for linguistic proficiency in two languages.

IB Diploma students have the option to have their subjects re-marked. In the past, approximately 10% of grades have been elevated upon re-mark. It is therefore likely that these already sensational results will improve further over coming days. Final percentage comparison with national IB Diploma results will be provided in due course, and as always, we are extremely confident that our students’ results will compare most favourably both nationally and internationally.

Given the above and the fact that ATAR conversions are yet to be released for IB Diploma students, analysis of ATAR and tertiary entrance pathways will be included in our comprehensive Year 12 results publication in the new year.

As with many facets of our curriculum and co-curriculum, Pembroke is proud to offer our students choice – with both the SACE and IB pathways – allowing each learner to find their place. In our delivery of the IB, we offer a unique secondary school experience by blending a richly challenging academic provision with a sharp focus on the development of the whole person, all of which is global to the core. Our standing as the State’s first IB School, our ability to leverage our scale and our commitment to personal excellence make Pembroke a destination for this incredible programme, and each year, we delight in seeing our IB students wholeheartedly engage with this distinct pathway.

The IB Diploma Programme truly complements Pembroke’s learning and caring culture as students equip themselves with skills and knowledge, embracing a foreign language, developing critical thinking and undertaking in-depth research to robustly prepare them for future studies and careers. Of great note, the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) element of the programme lights the way for students to develop into compassionate, thoughtful and active global citizens who embrace a lifelong commitment to community participation and service to others.

As with all results, the stories often sit behind the numbers and scores – stories of tenacity, grit, triumph and challenge. We are immensely proud of all these stories and the young people who have committed to personal excellence whether it be in the SACE or IB Diploma.

To our graduates, our teachers and our families – congratulations on everything you have worked so hard for in collectively realising this magical milestone. We wish our newest old scholars all that the world has to offer as they pursue their ambitions and follow their dreams – may you go forth with kind hearts and bright minds inspired by the spirit of Pembroke.
