Students work collaboratively, adapt to new experiences, develop their personal confidence, approach problems with the appropriate skills and techniques, manage timelines and develop creative and innovative solutions.
Junior School students explore Technology through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme curriculum.
Students in the Middle and Senior Schools are offered both Design, Technology, Engineering and Digital Technology courses.
Digital Technology
Digital Technology at Pembroke provides students with practical opportunities to be innovative developers of digital solutions and be knowledgeable in relation to computational thinking and digital systems. It assists students to become effective problem-solvers, users and creators of digital systems and critical consumers of information conveyed by digital systems. Our courses provide students with authentic learning challenges that foster curiosity, confidence, innovation, creativity, and collaboration.
We offer courses from Year 7 to 12 (SACE) which incorporate a balanced program of technical knowledge, practical skills and creativity combined with investigation into social and ethical issues related to associated technologies. Modules of work incorporate a diverse range of topics including robotics, drones, coding, artificial intelligence, exploration of virtual and augmented realities, digital imaging, data analysis, multimedia game programming, interactive design and 3D modelling.
Design and Technology
In Design and Technology, the emphasis is on the creative process in which students work collaboratively to design and construct a diverse range of products. Our curriculum aims to develop students’ technical skills and processes, knowledge of materials, application of design thinking and the impact of technologies on society and the environment. All topics are project-based and provide students with the opportunity to use a wide range of materials and technologies. They broaden their appreciation of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing systems (CAD & CAM) in the use of industry-standard 3D modelling and advanced technologies including 3D printing, real-time rendering, laser and plasma cutting and CNC milling, along with developing an understanding of engineering, architectural and sustainability concepts.
Pembroke offers outstanding facilities for Technology, including the Shipsters Road building for Art, Science and Technology. ICT (Information and Communications Technology) is an integral part of all Design and Technology courses and students use a range of hardware and software tools. Safety and safe working habits are emphasised in all facets of Design and Technology.
We are proud of our students’ many achievements in Technology, including our multi-award winning Human Powered Vehicle and nationally recognised Robotics Programs.
